The fuck is this shit? I'm 100% sure it's not crossthreaded but it will only go 1/3 in before it just stops. I could force it but I don't wanna break the damn thing or worse strip out the thermostat housing or something. There's this hard red thread sealant or threadlocker on there that might be the problem but I wasn't able to scrape the stuff off with anything. What do oppos?? This is my 1992 Eclipse not that it really bears mentioning.

Did you try candles and soft jazz?

A bench grinder with wire wheel would get that red crap off, then try threading it in with some grease on the threads.

I should have mentioned that I'm at my moms house and the car doesn't start. My dad's is 2 minutes drive away and has a wealth of tools so I can get a lot of things but a bench grinder wouldn't be one of them

I tried the jazz but I don't have any candles

Maybe the thread in the block is dirty, do you have a thread tapping tool to use to clean it out?
If not you should get one, just make doubly sure the thread size before using this tool otherwise you can fuck a whole lot of shit up.

Did they sell you the right part?

Put the end with the threadlocker into some boiling water to see if it softens, then gently (!) use some sandpaper or a brillo pad to see if it'll come off.

Yeah it looks identical to the part I took out

What made me say that is what I just got in the mail - Nikon camera battery that fits GF's S6500, had 2 identical looking batteries but turned out to be sliiiightly different. Wrong part. Probably from 2 or 3 cameras back.

Weird. It could be a bit different. I talked with a local friend of mine and he reminded me to check it it's tapered pipe thread, and it is. It's tight and doesn't leak and the car runs better now so it seems happy!

Problem solved = problem solved. And with the batteries and charger came a car charger for Nikon Coolpix, so if anyone wants it ... I have nothing to plug it into.

If the red threadlocker is on the new temp sensor, take it back. If the stuff is in the engine block, CAREFULLY ream the threads out with a tap
